About PAWLEYS ISLAND
Pawleys Island is a beautiful, unspoilt, nature lovers paradise. It boasts pristine beaches, waterways and marshes teeming with wildlife.
It is situated just 30 minutes south of Myrtle Beach, yet, it is a world away in so many ways. Pawleys Island is less commercial, much quieter but with still plenty to see and do.
Pawleys Island is home to several historic and natural attractions including Brookgreen Gardens, Hobcaw Barony and Huntington Beach State Park.
You won’t find any huge shopping malls in Pawleys Island, just quaint little collections of shops. Restaurants are predominantly local establishments, preparing traditional low country cuisine. This tends to be very seafood orientated. However, there are plenty of steaks and other alternatives as well.
It is very different from Myrtle Beach where you will find a lot of big American chain restaurants.
At the north end of Pawleys Island is Litchfield Beach where you will find one of our featured resorts, Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort, as well as a collection of local shops and restaurants.
It also boasts possibly the best collection of golf courses in South Carolina including the nationally recognised True Blue and Caledonia, two of the most awarded courses in South Carolina.
In short, Pawleys Island is a lovely area which has a lot to offer golfers, nature lovers and food lovers alike.
Just a ten minute drive north of Litchfield, you will find Murrells Inlet the ‘seafood capital of South Carolina’ and possibly the best nightspot in the entire Myrtle Beach / Pawleys Island area. The focal point of Murrells Inlet is the Marshwalk which features a number of restaurants and bars overlooking a boardwalk overlooking the beautiful inlet.
15 minutes south of Pawleys Island is the historic city of Georgetown with some of the oldest housing in America. The focal point of Georgetown is the waterfront, home to a number of restaurants, bars and shops.

Most people that stay in Pawleys Island usually reserve one day for a trip to Charleston which is about 90 minutes south and well worth a visit. Alternatively you might want to consider a two centre trip combining both destinations.
See our section on Charleston for more information on this lovely City.
WHEN TO TRAVEL
The summer beach trade brings in the most visitors and as such July and August can be very busy.
Peak Golf season runs from mid March through to early May with October also being a peak month as well, although rates are not as high as in the Spring. Courses are at their busiest but the weather and course conditions are at their very best.
That said May, June, September, November and December are all great times to visit the area for golfers. Courses are quieter, rates are lower and playing conditions are fantastic pretty much all year round.
Winter temperatures can be variable but it is generally dry and sunny in the early winter months so if you don’t mind some cold mornings you can make the most of the great rates at that time of year. The weather in January and February are a bit more unpredictable but a really bad winter is rare.
Pawleys Island is just 30 minutes South of Myrtle Beach and 90 Minutes North of Charleston so you can enjoy the contrasting attractions of three destinations from your Pawleys Island base…
